My life has been anything but a straight line. Each experience has added to me being present in this very moment with you. In my work with students and adults, I'm most curious about the parts of us that lie beneath the surface of what we say we want.
Born during the most stressful time of my family's life, I came in at 4.5 pounds and threw up for the first year of my life. Clearly, no one was having a good time! What I know now is that we all lived in a house of dysregulated nervous systems. Stress was not just in our minds; it was in our bodies. On the outside, there were symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and lack of focus, to name a few. On a deeper level, our nervous systems were clamoring to be calmed so that we could be our better selves.
Students focus on grades. Adults focus on income. That's the outside of life. What I've learned is that everything is affected by what's going on inside, all the way down to our nervous systems. When I learned that trauma is stored in our bodies, I dove into learning ways to release and heal from what happened in the past.
After over 300 hours of study and practice with Internal Family Systems (IFS) developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, I continue to be amazed at the deep healing I have experienced in myself and facilitated with others. It feels like a core piece of living that I've been searching for my whole life.
When I am clear and connected to my own inner knowing, I am free to be curious and creative with compassion. There's an inner calmness that may be more profound than I ever remember.
Writing and music have been lifelong loves. Art showed up in the second half of my life. I relish bringing the creative process in all my work with clients.
